Behind The Team:

Mia - Founder & Owner

Hello – Mia here, founder and owner of Mia Marie Vineyards. Welcome to our blog space and I wish you an informative journey reading about who we are and what we do. Some questions often asked that I can succinctly answer: The name of our winery comes from my first and middle name, Mia Marie. My husband and I purchased our estate property back in 2016 when our children were two and seven months old. Some say brave, some say risky – we decided to dive in and grow a dream into reality. We planted our first section of vineyard in Spring 2017 and opened our Tasting Room doors to the public in June 2021, right when the State of California reopened after Covid shutdowns.

As many before me in this industry experience, WINE FOUND ME. My educational background includes graduating from UC San Diego with a Degree in Theatre and a Minor in Biology. Following college, I worked in Marketing in professional theatre. In 2009, I went back to school at UC Irvine to earn a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential as well as a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Science followed by eight years working in education as a classroom teacher and a side business as a private tutor. Over this course of time, my husband’s and my love for wine and the rolling hills of Southern California solidified to an all-out passion. In 2018, I retired from teaching to focus on my family and running Mia Marie Vineyards fulltime.

One single idea started Mia Marie and we printed it on the back of every bottle of our wine, “Mia Marie strives to deliver a variety of craft wines in a relaxed setting. Family owned and operated, we cultivate our grapes and make our wine with a dedication to quality.” On a more personal level, I want my kids to feel pride in what our family has created as they witnessed the birth of our family business from its inception. The most important part of my job? Cultivating a strong team with consistent leadership and open communication. We live and breathe wine on this estate – from farming varietals well-suited to our San Diego climate, letting each vintage guide our choices and winemaking practices in our production facility, to serving and educating our guests on our Tasting Pavilion while overlooking the vineyard and beautiful Highland Valley. We strive to deliver wine for San Diego, by San Diego in an elevated tasting room setting.

If you see me in the tasting room, say hi.  I love to visit with our guests! My tasting pavilion is an extension of my home, and my heart. Cheers my friend and see you soon!

Love,
Mia
