Drew – Tasting Room Manager

Hi all, I’m Drew, Tasting Room Manager here at Mia Marie. 

By this point I’m sure most of you know me, or at least have seen me running around the tasting room. I’ve been part of the team here for about a year and half, and have been working in wine in San Diego for the past six years, operating beverage programs at North County restaurants such as Vintana Wine + Dine, running my own food & beverage photography business throughout Oceanside, and helping up-and-coming urban wineries such as Oddish Wines. Wine to me is like storytelling, a journey that reveals layers of history, terroir, and craftsmanship. When you boil it down, wine is simply fermented grapes, however it is also where science meets art. I believe wine invites you to taste not just flavors, but experiences, and is a celebration of the unexpected, where it can spark conversation, evoke memories, or even emotions. It is a love letter to the senses. 

To me the true allure of a memorable glass of wine starts in the vineyard and with the people behind the process. I was drawn to Mia Marie based on the principle of creating quality wine from San Diego for San Diego, and to be a family friendly, casual yet serious tasting room for all to relax at for the day.

When I’m not in the tasting room, you can most likely find me with my partner either hiking, cooking, or checking out the latest restaurant or bar to open up. I’m an avid reader as well of all things fantasy, which may be a bridge in itself to the whimsy and mystics of wine.

I look forward to see what the future holds for Mia Marie and Highland Valley. I think I’m most excited for the official recognization of our AVA and for the world to take serious the wines of San Diego. No matter what is to come in the next year, I truly believe that our story has only just begun, and we invite you all to help us write it!
